Streaming Service Netflix Invests $6 Billion in Content for 2016

In 1999, Netflix began its subscription-based movie-by-mail service and changed the course of home entertainment forever. In the wake of their rapid success, the Los Gatos, California-based company changed the way people watch movies at home yet again when they teamed with Starz Entertainment to deliver direct streaming of films to the homes of Netflix users around the country. Today, Netflix is a multi-billion dollar company that continues to evolve by pumping out critically acclaimed original content and is gearing up for one of their biggest years ever.

For 2016, Netflix looks to push the envelope further than they ever have by spending no less than $6 billion on combined original content and licensing deals. Instead of focusing on viewership numbers like their traditional TV network peers do, Netflix instead focuses on the fact that they have over 70 million subscribers utilizing their product around the world, with 43 million alone in the United States. The news that the company is shelling out so much dough for the year is a good sign for fans, as they can expect the quality of Netflix productions to continue to be some of the best around.

With Emmy Award-winning programs like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black returning for another year and new fan favorites coming out from the multimedia juggernaut, Marvel, Netflix isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
